About the role
The Arborist Supervisor will report directly to the Operations Manager overseeing and delivering Vegetation Management works on our Utility contracts for our Clients Scottish Power Energy Networks and Northern Power Grid. You will liaise with Clients & Customers and the wider Avove Team of Surveyors, Planners, Safety and Commercial Managers.
You will lead a team of skilled Arborists which will include both Direct and Sub-contract resources, you will deliver on-site works to the highest standard, exceeding Contract requirements and Client expectations. You will have responsibility and accountability for Operational Delivery and achievement of high Health & Safety standards for you and you staff within your designated area. Works are required to be delivered as per specification, fulfilling contractual requirements and achieving budgeted volumes.
This is a full-time permanent role operating out of our offices in Oswestry, Chorley, Wirral or Cheshire whilst supporting on site activities across the SPEN Network. There will be additional travel required to our clients operational sites and offices across the Northwest area.
What will your day look like
- Managing work programmes to ensure work is issued and carried out to the required standard with minimum risk to employees, sub-contractors and others on site, ensuring safe compliant delivery.
- Ensuring operational procedures, safe working methods and best environmental practices are followed and fully implemented.
- Ensuring that work specifications and method statements are fully completed and provided to and your operational teams.
- Ensuring that your field staff teams understand and implement risk assessments, method statements and bespoke contract documentation.
- Setting high standards and workload delivery targets for direct and contract staff in-line with contract and company objectives.
- Completing Safety, Environment and Quality Audits, implementing close out actions and improvement plans.
- Ensuring operational work programmes are delivered within agreed budgets and within planned time scales.
About you
A skilled and dedicated Arborist Supervisor with experience working in a focussed delivery team, maintaining high safety and customer standards whilst delivering planned work programmes and supporting reactive works as they arise. Known for being organised and capable of prioritising tasks effectively, the Arborist Supervisor engages proactively with a wide range of key internal and external stakeholders, maintaining clear and effective communications to maximise efficiency throughout the project lifecycle. Possessing strong communication skills, you will have a proven track record in delivery, for identifying areas for improvement and implementing effective solutions. Efficiency and business performance improvement is key.
With an educational background including GCSE, A-levels and potentially a degree-level qualification, you will have experience in utilising Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Power-point and be comfortable producing and delivering reports and results to line Management. Ideally you will bring experience from within a relevant sector, hold a full driving licence and have the flexibility to travel across the network to oversee projects and on-site activities.

About us
Mobilisation activities are now in progress after Avove have been awarded a ground-breaking new long term new Contract by Scottish Power Energy Networks.
We are delighted to announce that framework contracts for all Vegetation Management activities across the five SPEN network areas of Dee Valley & Oswestry, Mid Wales, Wirral, Mersey, Cheshire and the Edinburgh & Borders area in Scotland have all been awarded to Avove.
The contract has now doubled in size to be c.£10m pa and is for a full six-year period, this enabling a significant recruitment programme to be implemented with effective long-term planning and investment in both staff and equipment.
